Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
Frequently asked questions about SELTC - Can I pay by credit card?
Registration and other fees paid to SELTC cannot be paid by credit card. Hotel fees are paid directly to the hotel and can be paid for by credit card. - For what grades are LTC classes offered?
Classes are offered for third through twelfth graders. Some classes may be divided by age, such as puppets. Others are divided among guys and girls, such as song leading and speech. - Can fathers watch their daughter(s) perform in individual events at the convention?
Yes, fathers may be present in all events, including songleading and speech, when their daughters perform. However, participants do have the option of clearing the rooms of all males. We just ask that you make this preference known during the registration process so that schedules can be created accordingly. - If my child is involved in LTC, will we have classes EVERY week?
Not necessarily. For example, some congregations offer classes that meet a limited number of weeks (i.e. the class on Christian Art may last five weeks). It is best to make families aware of the time commitment which is required for each class. - In how many classes may my child participate?
While there is no limit on the number of classes in which your child may participate, we do encourage you to keep the following guidelines in mind: (1) consider the time commitment necessary to participate in each class and (2) remember, one of the greatest leadership lessons we can teach our children is to complete the things/projects we begin. - Sounds a lot like other leaders programs. What's the difference?
In many programs, competition is encouraged, offering 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards. In LTC, our main goal is to train youth in leadership, Bible knowledge, and service. At the convention, our youth will have an opportunity to celebrate what they have learned. Each individual or group is judged based on a set criteria. They are judged against a standard. They do NOT compete against each other. For example, ten 5th and 6th grade guys may participate in speech. If they all excel, all ten may be awarded gold medals. - If we participate in LTC, do we have to go to the convention?
The convention is held Easter weekend in Mobile. This does serve as a great bonding time for youth, teens, and families. However, it is not “mandatory” to attend the convention. Again, our goal is to train young people, not to prepare for a convention. - If we go to the convention, do we have to be there on Easter Sunday?
No. The convention will end late Saturday afternoon, giving families time to return home for Sunday morning. For the group that remains, congregational devotionals are held Saturday evening where groups typically hand out awards from the convention. A worship service is also held on Sunday morning at the convention site. - How much does it cost?
Registration to participate in LTC is $30. Each family covers hotel and food costs at the convention. Some congregations underwrite part or all of the expenses. There are a number of ways to make sure cost is not a factor among families. The key: plan ahead. - Do adults/observers have to pay to go to the convention?
There is no registration cost for adults or observers to attend the LTC convention in Mobile. - How can I help?
There are literally dozens of areas where adults are needed: teachers, assistants, coordinators, chaperons for service projects, etc. The opportunities are limitless. Contact us by completing the contact form on the website if you are interested in helping at the convention level. |
